Family and children

Round turrets with pointed roofs, red and white striped shutters, drawbridges and real cannons - fortresses, fortified castles, moated castles and palaces are fairytale worlds for children. Many of them are lovingly staged and have special offers for the youngest visitors.

At Festress Königstein (Saxony), for example, the grumpy fortress commander and a funny thief await young guests. "Who can find the key to the fortress?" is the name of the adventure game that takes you on an exciting tour through the old walls. There is also an audio guide especially for children.

The good ghosts Willi Bartzilli and Fritzi Dreispitzi haunt the fortress Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz. Children can spend the night and experience historical military life in the bridgehead of the fortress town of Torgau, organised by the Grenadier Battalion von Spiegel e.V. association.

The large "Kasselburg Eagle and Wolf Park" near Pelm (DE), which also includes parts of the fortified castle, offers experiences of a completely different kind. Wolves, eagles and falcons live here in large, near-natural enclosures and spacious aviaries.

In the exciting fortress island GeoFort in the Netherlands, everything revolves around the earth. Kids can travel back in time with the 4D Globe or 6000 km into the earth with the lift. In Fort Góra Gradowa in the fortress city of Gdansk (PL), the Hevelianum offers exciting experiments for kids of all ages. Children can find out how to climb to the summit of Mount Blanc at the Alpine Museum in the fortress of Bard (I). In over nine exhibition rooms, inquisitive young explorers are shown what mountaineering at 4,800 metres above sea level means.

The highlight for young visitors is often a cheerful children's birthday party at a fortress, with a sweet salute of honour - from the candy cannon, of course!
