FORTE CULTURA Station: Fortified Kasselburg Castle (DE)

Even today, the 37 metre high double tower of Kasselburg Castle from the 14th century still impresses with its sheer size. It is accessible and offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area of the wildlife park and the volcanic Eifel.

Built in the 12th century, Kasselburg Castle is considered one of the most daring fortifications of the Middle Ages. The building combines the functions of a defence tower, gateway, keep, residential tower and symbol of power under one roof.

The large "Kasselburg Eagle and Wolf Park", which also includes parts of the fortified castle, is home to wolves, eagles and falcons in large, near-natural enclosures and spacious aviaries.

Kasselburg Castle is one of the 11 fortress monuments in the inventory and care of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE).
