Sleep in historic walls
The range of accommodation options in fortresses, castles and palaces extends from youth hostels to flats and luxury hotels. Guests can even book the dungeons of Klaipeda Fortress (LT) if they fancy a bit of a scare. The offers are varied and are often supplemented with exciting adventure programmes and lots of history.
Royal views are often included free of charge, such as from the Rosenberg Fortress in Kronach or the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenzboth with modern youth hostels that leave little to be desired.
On the Königstein Fortress (Saxony) you can rent flats and enjoy picturesque sunrises and sunsets, the commander's room high up on the Bard Fortress (IT) combines peace and quiet with a view of the Alps.
Stylish dining or rustic celebrations
There are many good restaurants in Europe. A perfect interplay between historic vaults and culinary delicacies, garnished with small show interludes, magnificent views or history with great stories, is usually reserved for fortified monuments.

For a more authentic experience, book the fortress dinner at Festungsgastronomie Kufstein (A) with lute playing and historical verses accompanied by pork knuckle and chicken leg or classic medieval dinners at many fortress locations. It is also often possible to hire rooms for private celebrations and organise a historical setting according to your own wishes.
