Under the motto "We are cultural heritage", the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate assumes responsibility for the material cultural heritage of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, including cultural monuments such as archaeological sites and architectural monuments, as well as the collections of the state museums.

The GDKE's collection also includes 11 fortress monuments with exciting worlds of experience, including the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz, Bürresheim Castle and Pfalzgrafenstein Castle in the centre of the Rhine.
