FORTE CULTURA guided tour: Mainz Citadel (DE)

For a drink with Julchen in the Mainz Citadel

Between Drususstein, Jakobskloster and Schweickhardsburg as well as the underground corridors and air raid shelters of Mainz Citadel, Julchen chats about history and wine, including a few selected samples, of course.

The fortified city of Mainz has a history of over 2,000 years. Founded by the Romans and built at a strategically important location at the confluence of the rivers Main and Rhine, its history is characterised by changing relationships in power, government and society.

The citadel forms a central, particularly heavily fortified monument within the large fortress of Mainz, with a unique and exciting history. It is one of the few surviving modern citadels in Germany.

Julchen, the mistress of Schinderhannes, will guide you through Mainz Citadel in historical costume and with "rhoihessian" dialect. Combined with a tasting of regional wines, this tour is a unique experience for all the senses.

Between Drususstein, Jakobskloster and Schweickhardsburg as well as the underground corridors and air raid shelters of the citadel, there are exciting details about the history, but also numerous anecdotes and facts about wine and viticulture in Rheinhessen, including some selected samples.

You will be welcomed with a glass of Secco, followed by four different wines from a Mainz winery during the tour. The tour is usually accompanied by a Mainz winegrower.
