FORTE CULTURA Station: Küstrin Fortress, Kostrzyn nad Odrą (PL)

Prussian bulwark and once shining fortress city on the Oder

Experience history, architecture and nature in "Pompei on the Oder"

The Prussian fortress of Küstrin was built in the middle of the 16th century on the eastern side of the Oder and, with six bastions, was one of the largest European city fortresses of its time. At the end of the Second World War, the entire old town was completely destroyed during fierce fighting and never rebuilt.

Parts of the fortress, such as the Philipp Bastion, the Berlin Gate and the Kietz Gate, have been restored and form a stark contrast to the ruins of the old town. The flora and birdlife that has developed over decades creates a unique atmosphere - the "Pompeii of Küstrin". Discover the time when Küstrin was one of the most beautiful towns in Brandenburg on guided walks.
