National Historical-Architectural Museum "The Kiev Fortress"

History of the Kiev fortress and the liberation movement in Ukraine

Kiev Fortress is a monumental complex of former Russian fortresses from the 17th-19th centuries. The complex is one of the largest surviving fortresses in Europe. Visitors can see a unique permanent exhibition of artillery history "From Core to Projectile" and the only collection of automatic weapons in Europe.

The National Historical-Architectural Museum is located in the hospital block and includes three museum exhibitions that tell about the history of the Kiev fortress and the history of fortifications in Ukraine from the Trypillya culture to the early 20th century. Artefacts, events and biographies reflect the history of national liberation movements in Ukraine, which are closely linked to the fortifications. They underline the Ukrainian desire for freedom from the "Revolution on Granite" (student protests against the USSR in 1990) to the "Revolution of Dignity" (upheaval in Ukraine in 2014) and the current events in the defence of Kiev against the Russian invasion since 2022.
