FORTE CULTURA Station: Grauerort Fortress (DE)

Prussian fortress architecture of the 19th century

The artillery fort on the Elbe cycle path

Grauerort Fortress is a Prussian high fortress on a small headland directly on the Elbe fairway. It was built in 1869-79 to the north of the fortress town of Stade to protect the harbour of Hamburg, some 50 km away, from enemy ships from the North Sea.

The events on offer range from iconic concerts such as the Unplugged Sessionshobby and art exhibitions, vintage car meetings, historical spectacles and the famous Bützfleth Christmas market. The very special ambience of Grauerort Fortress is often used as a wedding location or for celebrations.
