Bürresheim Castle near Mayen in the Eifel (DE)
The fortified Bürresheim Castle stands picturesquely on a rocky spur north-west of Mayen and is one of the few fortress monuments in the Eifel that has never been conquered or devastated.
Not least because of its imposing and fortified double castle complex and its magnificent interior, Bürresheim Castle is often used as a film set. For example, scenes for "Rumpelstiltskin", "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and "The Prince and the Whipping Boy" were partly filmed here.
Walk in the footsteps of film heroes or through the history of the castle and enjoy literary-musical evenings or lectures.
Bürresheim Castle is one of the 11 fortress monuments in the inventory and under the care of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE).
