Following the Battle of the Bulge, the Wehrmacht launched its last major offensive in the west in the night from 31 December 1944 to 1 January 1945 - NORDWIND. The aim was to recapture Strasbourg and win back Alsace with several advances in northern Alsace and north-eastern Lorraine as well as from the Alsace bridgehead. Neither objective was achieved, despite great sacrifices on both sides and the non-evacuated civilian population. The weekend of remembrance will be organised with the following events:

12.01.2025 Opening the fortress monuments and defence history museums in northern Alsace to visitors
12.01.2025 NORDWIND excursion in the Sarreinsberg / Althorn area: Guided tour of the battle sites and villages in the assault strip of Assault Group II.
