The Gibraltar Heritage Trust is proud to host a commemorative event marking the anniversary of Polish General Sikorski on Saturday 4th July 2026 at 10:30am. Members of the Trust and the public are invited to Leisure Cinemas for a special presentation and book signing celebrating the publication of Sabotage! An In-Depth Investigation of the 1943 Liberator Crash that Killed Polish General Sikorski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garth Barnard and Chris Wroblewski\u2019s work examines the crash of the B-24 Liberator aircraft in Gibraltar on the 4th July 1943. The event remains of the most enduring wartime controversies and Sabotage! brings a fresh analysis, discoveries and an investigative insight to a story that continues to fascinate historians and the public alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will feature a live appearance by Chris Wroblewski, one of the book\u2019s co-authors, who will deliver a talk exploring the research behind the book\u2019s publication and the debates and theories surrounding the crash and the investigative challenges of revisiting a case that has been clouded by secrecy for more than eighty years. Attendees will also be invited to take part in an open Q&A session, offering the opportunity to engage directly with the Mr Wroblewski. This promises lively discussion and thoughtful debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A military fortress that was once used to defend Gibraltar against invading forces during the 18th century, this historical building was transformed in 2008 into the prestigious King\u2019s Bastion Leisure Centre. Amongst the facilities available is a public cinema which will host our event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This bastion, located in front of the central part of the City, was the most prominent and effective defensive position of Gibraltar\u2019s fortifications on the sea-facing wall during the Great Siege of Gibraltar (1779-83).<\/p>\n\n\n
