For the 20th time, the Festival of the Low German Language<\/strong> takes place. With free admission, visitors can look forward to a varied stage programme that combines tradition and modernity. There is also an arts and crafts market, exciting hands-on activities centred around Low German, cannon thunder and a mosaic exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plapperm\u00f6hlerin Susanne Bliemel leads through the day. The duo Ossenkopp will also be performing. Dietmar Schmidt and Martin Korn play traditional and their own Low German songs and invite you to laugh and sing along with titles such as \u201eBoddermelk-Blues\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Schwerin shanty choir \u201eDe Kl\u00f6nk\u00f6pp\u201c is a powerful voice. The singers have dedicated themselves to the songs of wind and sea and combine maritime classics with local folklore and North German humour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five-piece band Wattenl\u00e4ufer is committed to preserving the Low German language with its music. They provide well-known songs with Low German lyrics and a rocking sound. The programme of the multiple rock and pop award winners also includes their own rousing compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Oewerpetters from Wendland are an integral part of the North German Day. With their dances, they also liven up the stage. Sketches in Platt are presented by the Dierns un Jungs from the Fritz Reuter D\u00f6mitz grammar school centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are numerous other activities for young and old throughout the fortress grounds. The day begins at 10 a.m. with an ecumenical service in the armoury. A free guided tour of the fortress in Low and High German starts at 2 pm. The Concordia Shooting Society of 1848 e.V. of the Hanseatic City of Rostock and the Crivitz Shooting Guild 1839 e.V. will be firing firecrackers on the Drache bastion and explaining this tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors can test, refresh or improve their knowledge of Low German in a quiz and a rally. Craft stations, a visit from the life-size Abrafaxe and an arts and crafts market with a wide range of handmade products round off the festival. There will also be plenty to eat and drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Zweckverband Kulturdenkm\u00e4ler Ludwigslust-Parchim and the town of D\u00f6mitz organise the North German Day in cooperation with the Heimatverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V. The event is financially supported by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim and the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
The event is presented by NDR 1 Radio MV and Nordmagazin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortified with high brick walls, bastions, casemates and a drawbridge, the fortress impresses every visitor. The imposing Renaissance bulwark stretches out in the shape of a pentagon on the banks of the Elbe in Mecklenburg.
