The federal fortress of Rastatt was built from 1842 by the German Confederation to secure Germany's western border against France. The fortress system was divided into the fortress town and three forts: Leopoldsfeste, Friedrichsfeste and Ludwigsfeste. Today, the impressive Karlsruher Tor, Kehler Tor, the garrison hospital, the K\u00f6rnermagazin and L\u00fcnette 42 have been preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its collections and modern, didactic exhibition presentation, the Rastatt Museum of Military History is one of the most important military history museums in the German-speaking world. In the past, Rastatt's location on the border with France often placed it at the centre of European-German politics and the resulting military conflicts. From a European perspective, the town and castle also offer numerous links to the military history of the south-west German region, as shown in the exhibition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
