Westwall camouflage bunker on the Upper Rhine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hidden cultural heritage revived<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Some Westwall bunkers were given camouflage superstructures and painted to make them look like houses. This includes the \"camouflage bunker\" in Kehl-Neum\u00fchl. Built in 1938 as standard building 10a, it was equipped with an attic in 1939, which was inhabited from this point onwards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This camouflage structure was demolished in 2007 despite the building's status as a historical monument. From 2012 to 2015, the concrete filling, which had rendered the bunker unusable in 1947 instead of being blown up, was painstakingly removed. Since 2017, the structure has been looked after by the \"Tarnbunker Neum\u00fchl\" support association, which has set itself the goal of rebuilding the original camouflage structure, which was ultimately achieved by 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A visit to the \"camouflage bunker\" can be supplemented with visits to the older generations of fortifications built around Kehl and Strasbourg by the French Kingdom (Vauban), the German Confederation, the German Empire and the French Maginot Line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kehl-Neum\u00fchl camouflage bunker is part of the Franco-German Regional Network Fortresses and Defence History on the Upper Rhine 1870-1999<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
